This Christmas I was given a crystal growing set.

I decided to record how I got on with it.

So here's what happened...

The box packed with all the things you need to grow crystals... Still not sure at this stage whether I'm convinced this is going to work.

After reading the instructions VERY carefully I poured warm water into the trough and carefully poured about 4/5ths of the contents of the bag of crystals into the water. Then I stirred it thoroughly with the wooden stick provided.

There were two rocks provided, so I placed them in the trough and they were submerged by water.

After one day... I decided to split the rocks up. I'd been 'testing' a couple of copper coins in the extra fluid, but all it had done was tarnish them.

After two days. The smaller rock didn't appear to develop as well as the larger one.

Where as the larger one seemed to be developing really fast, the change was visible a vividpinky purple was developing on the top...

The sides of the trough began to crystal -up on the sides. The colours were really vivid and bright.

I added a small plain rock that I'd collected on the beach to see what happened to it. After a day in the trough, it too began to grow a bluey- purple crust.

Through the little magnifying glass provided.

After 3 days.

Some definite outcrops of crystal were visible by now.

Lifted out of the trough, the difference is visible. The rock was originally light sandy brown. Now it was a pale blue.

The crystals grew darker and more sharp.

The next day

The crystals looked REALLY dark

Look at the jagged edges sticking out on this picture. Fabulous.

Viewed from above

Individvual crystals can be clearly made out.

A crystal had formed under the trough, and had developed flat, making it resemble a shard of glass.

A large shard of crystal, again developed under the trough, where some of the liquid had spilled over. The way the crystals have formed is shown.

The crystalline residue around the edges of the trough are seen here

Viewed from the side

The smaller rocks have already shown a growth of their own

Some shards taken from the bottom of the trough.

The added stone has made excellent progress.

I've diluted the liquid slightly to see if it affects the process. Tune in to see what happens.

More images will be added as the experiment progresses.

Because the page takes so long to load, I've started an additional page. It can be found HERE
